Skincanceronly and Associate Professor Anthony Dixon DO NOT endorse Allmedic PDT and Allmedic skin products.
In particular, we do not recommend you use Allmedic products to manage actinic keratoses. Allmedic is not a sponsor of Skincanceronly and does not contribute in any way to our educational programs.
There are several suppliers of PDT machines and products, - of which Allmedic is one. A number of PDT products and equipment are effective for treating field actinic changes.
Galderma is one such provider. They have a PDT topical photosensitiser called Metvix. Metvix is Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved in Australia.
Allmedic has no PDT product that has been approved by TGA as at March 5, 2010.
If you are thinking of using the Allmedic PDT system, click here.
The Australasian College of skin Cancer Medicine has amended its fact sheet on managing skin cancers and actinic keratoses as of February 2010. That Board approved College guide can be downloaded here. Note that Allmedic's PDT along with some other brands of PDT are listed as "Contraindicated, Not TGA approved, efficacy and safety unknown". Other brands of ALA come from the same source that manufacture Allmedic ALA, a company called Australian Customs Pharmaceuticals.
INTERFERING WITH EDUCATION CONTENT
Skincanceronly is concerned that office bearers within the Allmedic company have made several attempts to pressure Skincanceronly into altering content on this web site.
Allmedic has also sought to influence the content in educational activities conducted by Associate Professor Dixon. Not only will Associate Professor Dixon and Skincanceronly not be bullied by such inappropriate attempts to affect the content of education we provide but we will here name and shame Allmedic for so doing.
Allmedic have a modus operandi of attempting to have parties talk favourably (or not at all) about them by making threats or suggestions of legal repercussions. Skincanceronly and Associate Professor Dixon hold to the principle of "without fear or favour". Our content in our education programs will be as we see appropriate based on evidence based medicine, and the lack of it, where applicable. Coercion will have no influence.
Any company / entity that attempts to coerce us into altering content to be more favourable to their products will be similarly named and shamed on this web site.
RESEARCH BUDGET
Allmedic has often claimed that it has strong background in research and a healthy research budget for development of new and emerging skin treatments. However scrutiny of their 2008 / 2009 financial statements indicates no budget for research, nor indeed any capcacity for a meaningful research budget. Those annual financial statements can be downloaded here.
As of March 5 2010 we are unaware of any reserach published in any reputable magazine that pertains to Allmedic PDT.
